The Malbec at Scooteney Flats shows Washington’s ability to walk a sort of tightrope between the Old World and New. Washington's Malbec lies in between the massive fruit and silky texture of the grape’s expression in Argentina and the firm structure, freshness and balance of the French examples. It is deeply colored, floral, fresh and incredibly intense.
The 2015 Red Mountain Malbec has a lovely combination of power and elegance. Unbelievably dark purple in the glass, the aromas are numerous and intense: violets, graphite, dark plum and blackberry bramble. The palate is seamless and luscious with minerality and spice; precise and focused with dark berry, crushed rocks and silky texture. The intensity doesn’t take away from the freshness however, and the mouthwatering acidity lingers throughout the lengthy finish.
