Malbec 2016
The Malbec at Scooteney Flats shows Washington’s ability to walk a sort of tightrope between the Old-World and New. In between the massive fruit and silky texture of the grape’s expression in Argentina and the firm structure, freshness and balance of the French examples, it’s deeply colored, floral, fresh and incredibly intense.
The 2016 Malbec Red Mountain is not lacking for dark, dense color. Unbelievably purple in the glass, the aromas are pronounced: violets, dried sagebrush, marionberry and fresh blackberry. The palate is luscious with both minerality and spice; focused with dark berry, graphite and lovely texture. It manages to stay both dense and fresh however, and the mouthwatering acidity lingers through the lengthy finish.
